This section contains a high-level timeline for FRNYC implementation as well as an introduction to the Key Implementation Measures (KIMs), a set of metrics schools must achieve to demonstrate successful implementation.
FutureReadyNYC schools will develop and sustain programs focusing on select occupational titles within healthcare, technology, business/entrepreneurship, education, human and social services, and HVAC/Decarbonization. Schools are selected to join FRNYC based on an application process demonstrating their readiness to plan and implement programs for a predetermined number of sections that remain consistent across grade bands in one of the two successive implementation strands:
Full Implementation
Full implementation describes schools which have offered FRNYC for at least one school year. For school year 24-25, all cohort 1 and 2 FutureReadyNYC schools are considered full implementation and will implement all five FRNYC core components for grades 9-12 starting in Fall 2024. Some exceptions may apply specifically for early college course work for cohort 2 schools and cohort 1 schools that do not yet have a senior FRNYC cohort. Core component requirements for full implementation schools, by grade:
Note: This table represents a suggested grade-specific distribution of FRNYC core components. While the sequence and dosage of core components are critical, the Office of Student Pathways will work to support adaptations for occupational titles, student populations served, and school types, e.g., Transfers, District 75, Internationals
First-year Implementation
First-year Implementation describes schools launching FRNYC for the first time. For school year 24-25, all Cohort 3 schools will follow First Year Implementation. First-year implementation schools must implement all five FRNYC core components in Fall 2024 covering grades 9-10 only, with the expectation that implementation will expand to all grades the following school year (SY 25-26, full implementation).
Note: For First Year Implementation, schools will offer Career Foundations to 10th graders; after this first year of implementation, Career Foundations should only be offered in 9th grade. This adaptation will allow schools to develop a career-ready cohort in 10th grade, allowing those students to be part of the 11th grade programming the following school year. Schools in First Year Implementation may embed Career Foundations for FRNYC 10th graders into the Introduction to Pathway Course 1 OR they may offer it in the Fall, then provide the Introduction to Pathway Course 1 in the Spring semester. CRMYA hybrid schools will only need to offer Career Explorations to their students as they normally do.
