FutureReadyNYC integrates the best of college and career preparation to successfully launch students into strong careers in high-wage, high-demand sectors. Participating schools will receive support and funding to develop labor market-aligned career-connected pathways to help students develop financial literacy, participate in career-connected coursework, work experiences, early college credit and/or an industry valued credential, and receive personalized career advising to prepare for rewarding careers.

FutureReadyNYC is grounded in five evidence-based core components designed for career exploration, preparation and success in high-growth, in-demand sectors. FRNYC students enroll in an FRNYC sequence that will include all five FRNYC core components:

  1. Career-Connected Instruction: Starting with career exploration in 9th grade for all freshmen, build awareness and progress to technical instruction aligned to high growth, high wage careers, as well as digital literacy and academic readiness.

  2. Early College Credits & Credentials of Value: Earn pathway-aligned credits and industry-recognized credentials to get aheadt.

  3. Work-Based Learning: Culminate in a pathway-connected paid experience to understand real-world applications and build social capital and professional networks.

  4. Personalized Advising: Work with a trained advisor to develop and navigate towards a personal career plan.

  5. Financial Literacy: Gain lifelong skills and habits around personal finance, in order to build economic security through quality course work.

Together, these experiences will help students build real skills and a strong plan and head start in life after high school.

The FRNYC Sequence

Following the delivery of universal career exploration to all freshmen in an FRNYC school, the FRNYC sequence is defined as a two to four year FRNYC student experience that integrates:

  1. Delivery of an NYCPS approved, four to eight course sequence of career connected instructional credit in a career pathway that the student chooses and is excited about

  2. Participation in relevant pathway-aligned early college courses, including dual-credit options, leading to earning 7+ college credits

  3. Development of a high-quality personalized college & career plan through an iterative process with 1-on-1 sessions with a trained college and career advisor

  4. Participation in high-quality work-based learning experiences, including work-based learning challenges and/or a paid internship

  5. Completing 54 hours of approved financial literacy coursework during school hours over the course of their 9-12 experience

Every FRNYC student is to complete the full FRNYC sequence of experiences.
