To deliver FRNYC programming to students, your school will partner with WBL intermediaries for employers, and CUNY/SUNY/Alternate Higher Education Partner for early college courses. Employer Partners will support your school with hosting paid WBL experiences for FRNYC students.

When/how employer partners are involved

Employers will play an integral role in the creation and implementation of your school's WBL experiences. While many opportunities for students will be managed by an intermediary partner (more details in Intermediary Partnerships section), your school is strongly encouraged to develop relationships with employers, particularly in your school's community.

    • In order to meet the work-based learning expectations of FRNYC for 9th-10th graders, schools will need to cultivate employer partners to provide early grade career exploration programming (e.g., panels, workshops) and/or participate in pre-existing programs led by CBOs or other program providers.

    • Career Exploration for 10th Grade

    • FRNYC Schools will provide at least two work-based learning opportunities for 10th grade students. This may include Career Discovery Week, a full day career exploration and exposure event in spring (around March/April) held at an employer's worksite through collaboration with Office of Student Pathways and WBL intermediaries. Your school must apply and be accepted to participate in Career Discovery Week. Schools that do not participate in Career Discovery Week should organize at least two career exploration events for 10th graders.

    • Workplace Challenges

    • Employers present a challenge to students to solve over the course of a 6-8 week program guided by their teacher. Employers check in with students ~1x/week on their progress throughout and join for the final presentations.

    • Students complete a paid internship aligned to their pathway during the school year or summer.

      Students who are enrolled in Pathways Matching in 11th grade can apply for a pathway aligned apprenticeship to begin in 12th grade.
